Overview

Punakha Drubchen is a major annual religious festival held in Punakha, one of Bhutan’s most historically significant regions. It takes place in the Punakha Dzong, usually in the first month of the Bhutanese lunar calendar, which typically corresponds to February or March. The festival is dedicated to the commemoration of the victory of Bhutanese forces over the Tibetan invaders in the early 17th century, and it is deeply rooted in Bhutanese history and religious tradition.
